Kidscape is a company that was opened in 1999 and has been running successfully ever since. The Kidscape idea is to take kids away in their school holidays to a safe and fun filled venue where they will have a holiday experience of a lifetime. So far we have been to areas in South Africa from Nylstroom, Roodeplaat Dam to the Eastern Traansvaal. We are about to explore the Eastern Cape, where our main aim is to give the kids a white water rafting experience, plus the whole Kidscape experience. In the past we have found that the camps are more successful if the kids are put into their own age groups, so you can rest assured that your 9 year old child will not sleep in the same accommodation as a 13 year old child. Personally, I have been working with children for about 16 years and my idea is to look after them from a parent’s point of view during school tours. On most children's camps, a group leader who is in his or her teens looks after the kids. Kidscape only employs adults, who are able to make vital decisions to look after the children. This really gives me peace of mind. Kids get together from different schools around the country, enabling them to make new friends and develop wonderful new skills in socializing with other children, boosting their self-esteem and confidence. Kidscape has entered a whole new dimension with our new company, “Camp Nelu,” run by myself and Pieter Trollip. Since Camp Nelu has started it very quickly became the favorite venue of choice by our clients. As far as the school tours are concerned, we manage groups from grade three to university and adult groups. The size of the groups may vary from fifteen to one hundred and thirty. Kidscape and Camp Nelu are able to run camps that fit in with the national curriculum, also specializing in holiday camps, educational camps, team-building, character-building, group-dynamics, life-skills and so much more.
Kidscape only has adults looking after the children and not teenage group leaders. All Kidscape staff have been police checked. They have also been working in an environment that involves children and are used to dealing with kids in everyday situations, as well as making important decisions as far as Kidscape is concerned. On camp we are all involved in making sure that it is run to Kidscape standards. We also make sure that the children are sleeping, eating, taking part in activities and that their health and safety is maintained. All ancillary staff of the venues we use are qualified to run the various activities and are registered with the relevant organizations.
